For years being a board member in Dayton school, Adil Baguirov relieved his position for new opportunities. Well after all, his past works have made significant contributions to how our education system is now and to how it is affecting students.
Adil Baguirov Dayton has been telling that education is not finite and it doesn’t begin when the morning bell at school rung and ends at dismissal more so, it doesn’t start on your first day as a kindergarten and finishes on your graduation, it is more of an ongoing process.
What is saddening for Mr. Adil Baguirov in this modern world is that, passing the exams, giving the correct answers and achieving goals are the main focus of our education system. There are numerous foundational blocks being missed which is critical in developing lifelong learning. And no, this isn’t a new idea introduced in the public instead, it is long overdue and many studies can back this up.
Number 1. Learning should be relevant – if we get to learn skills because it’s needed to do something that matters, then it is easier for us to remember it. So as an example, for students who want to know how to properly measure the land area and calculate it to grow a garden, they will need a formula to get the answer. They will surely get the formula in one way or the other, which will improve broaden their learning and improve their skills.
Number 2. Extrinsic rewards – Adil Baguirov believed that these extrinsic rewards being offered for activities people enjoy has a tendency to decrease their level of motivation. Simply put, if your children is a type who loves reading and they get stars or stickers for reading 30 minutes per day, there is a chance that they would lose interest from reading eventually.
Adil Baguirov Dayton, rewards therefore has to be reserved only when it’s needed as a way to motivate people in doing things that they do not really enjoy. In addition to that, the learning associated with grades has become learning for grades only and not for additional knowledge. In reality, there are so many students who have graduated college with flying colors but, they couldn’t remember the content of what they have learned after the test.
Number 3. Group study – believe it or not, collaborative learning environment is encouraging students to think for themselves, explain what they think and learn from other students. The moment they leave school, it is vital for students to collaborate to each. This is why Adil Baguirov Dayton is trying to rule out the tradition of testing every student one by one and make them compete against each other instead, encourage them to collaborate.
